FC Sion Crest History
The crest of FC Sion reflects the club's close connection to the canton of Valais and its proud football tradition. Throughout its history, the badge has consistently featured the club's traditional red and white colours, inspired by the flag of Valais, while incorporating symbols that represent both the region and the club's identity.
The earliest crest, used between 1952 and 1976, was a simple shield divided into red and white halves, displaying the club's name at the top and two red stars on the white section. The stars symbolised the canton of Valais, while the clean design established the club's distinctive visual identity.
In 1977, FC Sion introduced a redesigned shield that remained in use for more than three decades. The new badge featured a more modern shape, retained the two Valais stars, and added a large stylised letter "S" on the red half of the shield. This version became closely associated with the club's most successful era, during which Sion won numerous Swiss Cups and league titles.
A significant redesign followed in 2010, when the club adopted a contemporary curved shield. The modern emblem featured a flowing red-and-white design incorporating the traditional stars and club name, creating a more dynamic appearance while maintaining the historic colours and regional symbolism.
In 2022, FC Sion returned to a design strongly inspired by its classic 1977 crest. The updated badge restored the traditional shield shape, the prominent letter "S", and the two Valais stars, combining the club's rich heritage with a cleaner and more modern finish.
