The Ground

  • Tynecastle Park, tucked into the heart of Gorgie in Edinburgh, has been the proud home of Heart of Midlothian Football Club since 1886. Just west of the city centre, the ground blends more than a century of tradition with the passion and intensity of the Jambos’ support. For generations of Hearts fans, Tynecastle has been more than a stadium, it’s a living landmark of maroon identity.

  • With a capacity just under 20,000, Tynecastle is famed for its steep, close-to-the-pitch stands that concentrate noise into a distinctive, rolling roar. The Gorgie Stand behind the goal is the traditional heartbeat of the home support, while the Roseburn Stand opposite typically houses the away following. Running the length of the pitch, the Wheatfield Stand offers some of the clearest sightlines in Scottish football, and the modern Main Stand, home to the dugouts, media, hospitality and club offices, adds a touch of contemporary polish without losing the ground’s unmistakable character. Together they create an atmosphere that feels both grand and intimate: a true cauldron.

  • Though modernised in stages, most notably with the redevelopment of the Main Stand in 2017, Tynecastle has retained its soul. The stands rise sharply, the crowd feels on top of the action, and big occasions reverberate through the tight streets of Gorgie. The ground has staged countless league and cup nights, European ties that tested the rafters, and community events that anchor the club to its neighbourhood, cementing Tynecastle’s status as a civic as well as a sporting landmark.

  • Set within the city fabric rather than on its fringes, Tynecastle is one of Scotland’s most accessible football venues. Haymarket station is a short walk away, frequent buses run along Gorgie and Dalry, and on matchdays the surrounding streets swell with maroon scarves and the smell of pre-match pies. From the first chorus to the final whistle, the sound carries far beyond McLeod Street, proof that Tynecastle Park remains, in every sense, the beating heart of Midlothian.

Around the Stadium

Before and After the Match

  • The Tynecastle Arms (Gorgie Road). The classic pre-match Hearts pub, literally a few steps from the ground. Small, atmospheric, and packed with maroon memorabilia, expect it to be heaving on matchdays.

  • The Athletic Arms – “The Diggers” (Angle Park Terrace). A legendary Hearts haunt with a proper old-school bar and great beer. Close to both Tynecastle and Murrayfield, it’s a rite-of-passage pint for Jambos.

  • The Caley Sample Room (Angle Park Terrace). Craft beer and quality pub food in a roomy setting about a 5–10 minute walk from the stadium, ideal for groups before kick-off.

  • Roseburn Bar (Roseburn Terrace). Traditional sports pub with big screens on the Roseburn side of the ground; lively on matchdays and often a popular rendezvous for home and visiting fans.

  • Ryrie’s Bar (Haymarket Terrace). Historic Edwardian pub right by Haymarket Station, perfect if you’re arriving by train and want a pint before the short walk/bus to Tynecastle.

  • Platform 5 (Haymarket). Large, modern pub next to the station with lots of screens, good for catching the early kick-offs before heading west to the ground.

  • The Jolly Botanist (Haymarket). A lively gin-led bar across from the station; buzzy pre-match atmosphere and an easy meet-up spot for mixed groups.

  • The Golden Rule (Yeaman Place, Fountainbridge). Classic neighbourhood pub with real ale and character—about a 10–15 minute stroll to Tynecastle via Fountainbridge/Polwarth.

Tip: Tynecastle-side streets get very busy; arrive early, and note that some pubs may manage door policies on derby/“Category A” matchdays. If you’re staying near Haymarket, those options are the most convenient and have frequent transport to the stadium.
