The Ground

  • Ashton Gate, located in the Ashton area of Bristol, has been the home of Bristol City Football Club since 1904. Originally a modest ground in a residential district south-west of the River Avon, Ashton Gate has evolved into a modern, multi-use stadium.

  • The ground first opened in the late 1800s, but it became Bristol City’s permanent home in 1904 after the club merged with Bedminster FC.

  • A major redevelopment was completed between 2014 and 2016, transforming the stadium into a modern, all-seater venue. This project included the construction of the new Lansdown Stand—a state-of-the-art facility housing corporate boxes, media areas, and expanded seating—and the rebuilding of the South Stand and Dolman Stand to modern standards.

  • Today, Ashton Gate is owned and operated by Bristol Sport, which oversees the operations of Bristol City FC, Bristol Bears Rugby, and other associated sports entities. The stadium now boasts a seating capacity of approximately 27,000, making it one of the largest stadiums in the south-west of England.

  • The stadium features a four-stand, bowl-style layout, offering excellent sightlines from all areas, and is known for a vibrant matchday experience—particularly in the South Stand, where some of the club’s most vocal supporters gather.
