Antalyaspor Crest History
The crest of Antalyaspor has remained remarkably consistent throughout the club's modern history, reflecting the team's strong identity and close connection to the city of Antalya. The badge is instantly recognisable through its red and white colours and the stylised depiction of the Yivli Minare (Fluted Minaret), one of Antalya's most famous historical landmarks.
Between 2010 and 2014, Antalyaspor used a circular crest featuring the initials "AS" surrounding the Yivli Minare, with the club's founding year 1966 displayed below. During this period, the club's principal sponsor, Medical Park, appeared at the top of the badge, reflecting a common practice in Turkish football at the time.
In 2014, following the end of the sponsorship agreement, the club removed the Medical Park branding and restored the traditional club name, Antalyaspor, to the top of the crest. Apart from this change, the badge retained its familiar circular design, the iconic Yivli Minare, the intertwined AS initials, and the founding year 1966.
Antalyaspor Club History
Founded in 1966, Antalyaspor is the leading football club of the Mediterranean city of Antalya. The club was formed through the merger of three local teams, Yenikapı SuSpor, İlk Işıkspor, and Ferrokromspor, with the aim of creating a strong representative for the rapidly growing city. Wearing its traditional red and white colours, Antalyaspor is affectionately known as "Akrepler" (The Scorpions).
After spending its early years in the lower divisions, Antalyaspor earned promotion to the Turkish First Division for the first time in 1982. Although the club experienced several promotions and relegations during the following decades, it gradually established itself as a regular competitor in Turkish professional football.
The club enjoyed one of its strongest periods during the late 1990s and early 2000s, becoming a stable member of the Süper Lig and qualifying for European competition. Antalyaspor reached the Turkish Cup Final in 1999–2000, narrowly losing to Galatasaray, but secured qualification for the UEFA Cup thanks to Galatasaray's domestic double. It marked the club's first appearance in European competition.
Following another promotion in 2008, Antalyaspor became an established Süper Lig club. The team regularly finished in mid-table while attracting several internationally renowned players, including Samuel Eto'o, Samir Nasri, Lukas Podolski, Nuri Şahin, and Fernando, significantly raising the club's international profile.
Antalyaspor's greatest rivalry is with Alanyaspor in the Antalya Derby, a fixture that has grown in importance since Alanyaspor's promotion to the Süper Lig. Matches against Adana Demirspor, Mersin İdmanyurdu, and other clubs from Turkey's Mediterranean region also generate considerable regional interest.
