Built during the thirteenth century, the fortified walls are among the city's most famous landmarks and have become inseparable from the football club's identity. As a result, stylised depictions of towers, battlements and defensive walls frequently appeared in the club's crest designs.
During the club's early decades, the badge generally featured shield-shaped designs incorporating the club's maroon and white colours. AS Cittadella Club History
The club was founded in 1973 through the merger of two local sides, Olimpia Cittadella and US Cittadellese. The merger was intended to create a stronger football institution capable of representing the city at a higher level and competing more effectively within the Italian football system.
During the 1980s and 1990s, the club established itself as a competitive force in Serie C and began attracting wider attention for its organisation and ambition.
A historic breakthrough arrived in 2000 when Cittadella achieved promotion to Serie B for the first time in its history. Under the guidance of manager Ezio Glerean, the club became known for an innovative and highly attacking style of play that contrasted with many traditional tactical approaches in Italian football. Promotion to the second tier represented an extraordinary achievement for a club from a city with a population of little more than 20,000 inhabitants.
