The Ground
Rising from the residential streets of North Lanarkshire, Fir Park has been the proud home of Motherwell FC since 1895. Steeped in over a century of footballing tradition, it stands not as a grand modern arena, but as a deeply rooted symbol of community, resilience, and working-class identity. For generations of supporters in claret and amber, Fir Park is far more than a stadium, it is the beating heart of the Steelmen’s story.
With a capacity of just under 14,000, Fir Park is one of Scotland’s most intimate top-flight grounds. Its four distinct stands — the Phil O’Donnell Stand, Davie Cooper Stand, John Hunter Stand, and South Stand — encircle the pitch in a tight, enclosed formation that keeps supporters close to the action. The Phil O’Donnell Stand, rebuilt in the 1990s and named in honour of former captain Phil O'Donnell, serves as the modern centrepiece, housing hospitality areas, media facilities, and dressing rooms. Opposite, the Davie Cooper Stand, named after the mercurial winger Davie Cooper, is often the vocal engine of the home support, its low roof amplifying every chant.
Unlike the sweeping bowls of newer stadiums, Fir Park retains the character of a traditional British ground. The stands rise steeply from pitchside, creating a sense of pressure and immediacy for visiting teams. While modernisation has ensured compliance with contemporary safety standards, Fir Park has never abandoned its identity. Rather than relocate to a soulless out-of-town complex, Motherwell chose evolution over replacement, preserving the soul of a ground that remains woven into the town’s fabric.

Around the Stadium
Before and After the Match
The Electric Bar (Airbles Road). The definitive pre-match Motherwell pub and a favourite with home supporters. Just a few minutes’ walk from Fir Park, it fills quickly on matchdays with claret-and-amber scarves, lively debate, and wall-to-wall football chat. Expect pints flowing early and plenty of discussion about the starting XI.
The Windmill Tavern (Windmillhill Street). A popular and slightly more modern-feel bar close to the ground. Spacious, welcoming, and well set up for matchdays, it’s a strong choice if you want atmosphere without being completely shoulder to shoulder.
The South Dalziel Studios (Airbles Road). Practically across from the stadium, this compact local pub is a proper Steelmen haunt. Friendly, traditional, and buzzing before kick-off, it’s one of the closest watering holes to the turnstiles.
The Railway Tavern (Motherwell town centre). Ideal for fans arriving by train, particularly via Airbles or Motherwell Central. A classic town-centre pub with a steady stream of supporters gathering before making the short walk to the ground.
The Brandon Works (Brandon Parade South). The local Wetherspoons and a popular meeting point earlier in the day. Large, affordable, and busy with fans of all ages. A practical option for groups and travelling supporters arriving in town well before kick-off.
The New Century Bar (Merry Street). A well-established Motherwell pub with a lively but friendly matchday crowd. Expect plenty of regulars, match predictions flying around, and post-match reaction dissected pint by pint.
The Woodcutter (Merry Street). A busy and upbeat bar that draws a younger crowd on matchdays. Good drinks selection and big screens make it a natural gathering point before walking down toward Fir Park.
The Forge (Motherwell town centre). Spacious and energetic, this is a solid choice for groups looking to gather before heading to the ground. On big matchdays, it builds a strong pre-game buzz.
The Dalziel Bar (Glencairn Street). A more traditional, low-key local pub. Ideal if you’re after a quieter pre-match pint and proper local atmosphere away from the busiest spots.
Ravenscraig Sports Facility Bar (O’Donnell Way). Slightly further out but a comfortable option with modern surroundings and parking nearby. Good for families or those wanting food and space before the game.
