The Ground
Somerset Park, located close to Ayr town centre, has been the home of Ayr United F.C. since 1888. One of the most traditional grounds in Scottish football, it retains much of its old-school charm and is a favourite among groundhoppers.
With a capacity of just over 10,000, the stadium is a mix of seating and terracing. The Main Stand, dating back to the early 20th century, is a standout feature with its classic design, while the North Stand provides more modern seating. Large areas of terracing remain, giving Somerset Park a proper traditional feel rarely found in the modern game.
The ground’s compact layout and close proximity of fans to the pitch create a lively and often intense atmosphere, particularly during local derbies and important matches.

Around the Stadium
Before and After the Match
The West Kirk (Newmarket Street). A lively Wetherspoons-style pub right in Ayr town centre and a go-to for travelling fans. Big, cheap, and efficient, it’s ideal if you’re arriving by train and want a reliable pre-match pint before the walk to Somerset Park.
The Merchants Ayr (Sandgate). One of the busiest bars in town on matchday, with a younger crowd and a more modern feel. Expect music, packed tables, and a good buzz before kick-off,especially for bigger games.
The The Twa Dugs (Sandgate). A classic football pub with strong local support. Compact, traditional, and full of character, it’s where you’ll hear proper match talk over a pint. Can get very busy, very quickly.
The The Tam o’ Shanter Inn (High Street). A historic Ayr pub with plenty of charm. Slightly more relaxed than the pure football spots, but still popular with supporters looking for a pint in a traditional Scottish setting.
The The Wishing Well (town centre). A straightforward, no-frills pub that fills up with locals on matchdays. Good for a quick pint without the chaos of the busiest bars.
The The Auld Brig (Alloway Street). Close to the river and one of the more scenic pre-match options. A bit more space than some central pubs, making it a solid choice if you want to avoid the tight crowds.
The The Buffs Club (near Somerset Park). A proper local supporters’ club atmosphere not far from the ground. Expect strong Ayr United presence, cheap drinks, and real matchday chatter.
