The Ground

Rising on the eastern edge of town, the Excelsior Stadium, also widely known as the Albert Bartlett Stadium for sponsorship reasons, has been the home of Airdrieonians F.C. since 1998. Built following the club’s reformation, it represents a new chapter in Airdrie’s football story, modern, resilient, and deeply connected to the local community.

With a capacity of just over 10,000, the stadium is one of the larger venues outside Scotland’s top flight. Its clean, modern design offers excellent sightlines and a spacious feel, with three seated stands typically in use on matchdays. The Main Stand houses hospitality areas, media facilities, and club offices, while the opposite stand and end sections create a compact, enclosed setting that helps generate atmosphere when the crowd gets behind the team.

While it may not carry the Victorian-era architecture of Scotland’s older grounds, the Excelsior has developed its own identity over the past two decades. On matchdays, the red and white of Airdrie fills the stands, and the sound from the home support echoes sharply around the bowl. When the Diamonds are in full voice, the stadium feels intimate and intense, particularly for derby fixtures or promotion-chasing encounters.

Situated on Craigneuk Avenue in North Lanarkshire, the stadium is well connected. Drumgelloch railway station lies within easy walking distance, with direct services to Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh. For drivers, the A8 and M8 motorways provide straightforward access, and on-site parking is available around the ground. Its location makes it an easy hop from Glasgow, yet firmly rooted in the proud football town of Airdrie.

  • Official Online Tickets. The club sells matchday tickets online through their official ticketing portal hosted by Fanbase, this is the primary way to buy tickets before matchday.

  • Matchday Gate Entry. A limited pay-at-the-gate option is sometimes available for both home and away supporters, but this depends on the fixture and demand.

Around the Stadium

Before and After the Match

  • The Tipsy Cow (Airdrie Town Centre). A popular and lively bar in the centre of town, The Tipsy Cow is a common meeting point for Diamonds supporters before heading to the stadium. Expect football on the screens, a good range of drinks, and steady matchday buzz building from late morning onwards.

  • The Coach House (South Bridge Street). A traditional Scottish pub with a loyal local following. Friendly, unpretentious, and a solid option for a relaxed pre-match pint before making your way out to the ground.

  • The Clarkston (Clarkston Street). One of the better-known pubs in Airdrie, offering food as well as drinks. A good choice if you want something more substantial before kick-off, especially for early Saturday fixtures.

  • The Commercial Bar (Town Centre). Compact and welcoming, this is very much a local supporters’ bar. On matchdays, you’ll hear plenty of team talk, line-up predictions, and post-match analysis long after the final whistle.

  • The Stadium Bar (Excelsior Stadium). Open on matchdays, the in-stadium bar provides a convenient pre- and post-match option. Ideal if you want to stay close to the ground, especially in colder weather. Atmosphere builds steadily as kick-off approaches.
