The Ground

  • Molineux Stadium, located in the heart of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, has been the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club since 1889. Steeped in history yet continually evolving, it stands as one of English football’s most recognisable grounds, blending the charm of a traditional stadium with the facilities of a modern sporting venue.

  • The stadium first opened in 1889, when Wolves moved from their previous ground at Dudley Road. Named after Benjamin Molineux, a local businessman whose land the site once occupied, Molineux became one of the first purpose-built football grounds in England. Over the decades, it has undergone several major redevelopments, most notably in the early 1990s, when the club modernised all four stands to create an all-seater stadium in line with new safety standards.

  • Today, Molineux is owned and operated by Wolverhampton Wanderers and has an all-seated capacity of around 31,750. The stadium is composed of four distinct stands—the Billy Wright Stand, the Steve Bull Stand, the Sir Jack Hayward Stand, and the Stan Cullis Stand—each named after legendary figures from the club’s history.

  • Molineux’s location just north of Wolverhampton city centre makes it a true urban landmark, easily accessible by rail, road, and foot. Surrounded by pubs, shops, and the nearby West Park, it retains the community feel of a traditional English football ground while also serving as a venue for concerts, corporate events, and international fixtures.
