The Ground
Plough Lane, situated in Merton, South West London, serves as the proud home of AFC Wimbledon, a club reformed by its supporters in 2002 following the relocation of Wimbledon FC. Officially opened in November 2020, the current Plough Lane stadium revives the historic name once associated with the original Wimbledon FC’s ground, restoring the club’s spiritual home after nearly two decades of exile.
With a seating capacity of approximately 9,300, Plough Lane reflects both the club’s community-centered ethos and its ambitions for sustainable growth, with provisions in place for future expansion to around 20,000 seats. The stadium, designed by KSS Architects, features modern all-seater stands that offer excellent sightlines, while remaining closely integrated into the surrounding urban environment of Wimbledon’s traditional heartland.
Plough Lane stands as a symbol of AFC Wimbledon’s unique supporter ownership model, with the Dons Trust holding a controlling stake in the club to safeguard its independence and long-term stability. Every matchday reflects the resilience and determination of a fanbase that brought their club back home, creating an intimate, vibrant atmosphere that honors both past and present.
Though the stadium is relatively new, its location and name carry decades of heritage, linking AFC Wimbledon directly to the community and supporters that fought for its rebirth.
