The Ground
The Brick Community Stadium, the shared home of Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors, is one of the most recognisable modern sporting venues in the North West. Opened in 1999 as the JJB Stadium and later known as the DW Stadium, it has become a central part of Wigan’s identity—hosting football, rugby league, and a wide variety of community events. Renamed in 2024 to honour “The Brick,” a local charity supporting those facing poverty and homelessness, the stadium today symbolises not only sporting achievement but also the strength of community spirit in Wigan.
With a current capacity of around 25,000, the Brick Community Stadium offers an impressive scale while retaining a sense of intimacy that keeps supporters close to the action. Its four stands provide excellent sightlines: the West Stand, the largest and most modern, serves as the focal point with extensive seating, executive boxes, and hospitality facilities. The East Stand mirrors it opposite, while the North and South Stands sit behind the goals, with one typically allocated to visiting supporters. Together, these stands create a vibrant matchday atmosphere, blending the passion of football and the intensity of rugby league.
The stadium’s design reflects the ambition and transformation of Wigan during the late 1990s. Built on the Robin Park complex, it replaced Springfield Park as Wigan Athletic’s home and has since hosted memorable moments, from Latics’ rise through the divisions to their 2005 promotion to the Premier League, as well as Wigan Warriors’ long run of rugby league dominance. Despite being a relatively young ground, it has already secured a firm place in English sporting history.
Beyond sport, the Brick Community Stadium is a landmark for the town. Its location on Loire Drive, just off the M6, makes it highly accessible, and its striking floodlights illuminate the skyline on matchdays
