The Ground
Edgeley Park, located in Stockport, has been the home of Stockport County Football Club since 1902. Steeped in tradition, it remains one of the Football League’s most historic venues, carrying the weight of more than a century of triumphs, setbacks, and community pride. While modernised in places, it retains the character of an old-style English ground, symbolic of County’s deep-rooted place in the town’s identity.
The stadium has seen numerous changes over the decades, adapting to the requirements of different eras in football. From its origins as a rugby ground to its transformation into a football stronghold, Edgeley Park has weathered wars, relegations, and resurgences. Today, it holds a capacity of just over 10,800, a size that perfectly matches the ambition and loyal following of Stockport County, who regularly draw some of the strongest crowds in League One and beyond.
Edgeley Park’s most distinctive feature is its traditional four-stand layout, each with its own personality. The Cheadle End, an imposing all-seater stand behind one goal, is the heartbeat of the ground, housing County’s most passionate supporters. Opposite, the Railway End typically accommodates away fans, maintaining the stadium’s reputation for intensity and atmosphere. Along the sides, the Danny Bergara Stand—named after the legendary manager—and the Main Stand offer a blend of history, modern seating, and hospitality facilities. Together, they give Edgeley Park a balance of old and new, intimacy and grandeur.
Despite changes over the years, Edgeley Park remains firmly tied to its community. Nestled within residential streets and just a short walk from Stockport’s town centre, it has always been a ground of accessibility and familiarity. The floodlights rising above Edgeley are a landmark in the town, visible for miles and symbolic of Saturday afternoons spent following the Hatters.
