The Ground
Moor Lane, situated in Kersal, Salford, has been the home of Salford City Football Club since 1978. Though extensively redeveloped in recent years, it retains the feeling of a community ground, symbolising the rise of a once-local non-league side to the professional tiers of English football.
The ground has undergone dramatic transformation since Salford City’s profile surged following investment by the “Class of ’92” in 2014. For decades it was a modest, largely overlooked non-league venue, but redevelopment works completed in 2017 turned it into a modern, all-seater stadium. Today, its capacity stands at around 5,100, balancing the demands of the Football League with the close-knit atmosphere that defines Salford’s support.
Moor Lane’s most striking feature is its compact design. Four modern stands enclose the pitch, each bringing fans close to the action. The West Stand provides hospitality facilities and executive boxes, reflecting the club’s growing ambition, while the North Stand accommodates the most vocal home supporters, generating the energy that fuels matchdays. Opposite, the East Stand mirrors this modern practicality, and the South Stand serves as the base for visiting fans, ensuring that Moor Lane offers both fairness and intensity in its layout.
Despite its upgrades, the stadium remains firmly embedded in its local setting. Surrounded by residential streets rather than retail parks or motorways, it stands as a reminder that Salford City’s journey is one of evolution rather than dislocation. The ground is not about grandeur but about possibility: a stage where a club with humble roots has dared to dream.
