The Ground
Carrow Road, located in the heart of Norwich, Norfolk, has been the proud home of Norwich City Football Club since 1935. Known simply as "Carrow Road" to supporters and neutrals alike, the stadium is steeped in history and tradition, standing as a symbol of the club’s deep connection to the local community. Its location, just a short walk from Norwich city centre and nestled beside the River Wensum, gives it a distinctive character and accessibility rare among modern stadiums.
The ground was built remarkably quickly—constructed in just 82 days in response to safety concerns at the club’s previous home, The Nest. From its beginnings as a hastily assembled ground, Carrow Road has evolved over the decades into a modern yet unmistakably classic English football stadium. While it has undergone significant redevelopment, particularly in the 1990s and early 2000s, the ground has retained much of its original charm. The iconic South Stand (now the Geoffrey Watling City Stand) and the River End are reminders of its layered history, contrasting with the more contemporary Jarrold Stand.
Today, Carrow Road remains both owned and operated by Norwich City FC, with a current capacity of around 27,000. While larger than many traditional grounds, it maintains an intimate atmosphere—especially on matchdays when the passionate Canary faithful create a vibrant, often raucous environment. Its tight seating and proximity to the pitch ensure that fans remain a central part of the action, helping make Carrow Road a fortress for the home side.
