Charlton Athletic FC Ground & Tickets

Ground: The Valley

Capacity: 27,111

Location: Floyd Road, London

Country: United Kingdom

The Ground

  • The Valley is one of English football’s most historic and traditional stadiums. Nestled in the heart of South East London, it has been the proud home of Charlton Athletic since 1919, with the club and its supporters deeply connected to the ground’s unique story, including its famous return after exile in the late 1980s.

  • With a capacity of just over 27,000, The Valley offers fans an authentic matchday atmosphere. Its steep East Stand creates one of the most imposing single stands in the country, while the close proximity of the seats to the pitch allows supporters to feel fully immersed in the action.

  • While it may not match the scale of larger Premier League arenas, The Valley delivers an intimate and genuine football experience, staying true to the roots of English football culture.

  • The Valley is set into the surrounding landscape like a true football amphitheatre, with high stands rising dramatically from the bowl-shaped site. Originally carved out by hand by volunteers and supporters in the early 20th century, the ground's unique topography gives it a character few other stadiums can match.

Before and After the Match

  • The Rose of Denmark – Just a short walk from The Valley on Woolwich Road. A popular pre-match spot for home and away fans, offering a wide beer selection and classic pub food.

  • The Antigallican – Right next to Charlton Station. Always busy on matchdays with a lively atmosphere, plenty of space, and outdoor seating available.

  • The Bugle Horn – Located near Charlton Village, about a 10-min. walk to the ground. A more traditional local pub with a friendly crowd and good selection of drinks.

  • The White Swan – Also near Charlton Village, offering a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere with real ales and comfortable seating.

  • The Anchor & Hope – Down by the Thames, around 15–20 min. on foot. A riverside pub with scenic views, great for a drink before or after the match.

  • The Royal Standard – Located on Vanbrugh Park (15–20 min walk or short bus ride). A cozy, traditional pub offering good food, well-kept beers, and a more laid-back atmosphere. Often quieter than the busier matchday pubs closer to the stadium.

  • The River Ale House – On Woolwich Road (12 min walk). A popular independent micro-pub with a rotating selection of real ales and ciders. Great for craft beer lovers looking for something a bit different pre- or post-match.
