The Ground
Turf Moor, the proud home of Burnley Football Club, stands as one of the most historic and atmospheric football stadiums in England. Located in Burnley, Lancashire, it has been central to the identity of the Clarets since 1883, making it one of the longest continuously used football grounds in the world. For generations of supporters, Turf Moor has been the stage for triumphs, struggles, and a deep-rooted sense of community that binds the town to its team. A ground rich in tradition, it reflects both the heritage of a founding member of the Football League and the resilience of a working-class town that has always stood by its club.
With a current capacity of just over 21,000, Turf Moor offers an intimate yet intense matchday atmosphere that rivals far larger venues. Its four stands combine history with modernisation: the James Hargreaves Stand, which provides the main hospitality facilities, offers a sweeping view of the pitch and houses many of the club’s offices. Opposite lies the Jimmy McIlroy Stand, named in honour of Burnley’s legendary forward, a reminder of the club’s golden eras. The Bob Lord Stand, steeped in character, reflects the influence of one of Burnley’s most significant figures, while the David Fishwick Stand, often accommodating the most vocal home supporters, creates the passionate heartbeat of Turf Moor. Together, these stands produce an atmosphere that is both fiercely local and unmistakably authentic.
Turf Moor’s architecture mirrors the evolution of football itself. From its earliest days with open terracing to significant redevelopments in the 1990s and beyond, the ground has adapted to the needs of modern supporters while retaining its traditional charm. Unlike many newer stadiums, it retains a sense of intimacy and closeness to the action, making it a favourite for fans and a daunting venue for visiting teams.

Around the Stadium
Before and After the Match
The Royal Dyche (Yorkshire Street). The most famous pre-match pub for Burnley fans, just a short walk from Turf Moor. Renamed in honour of legendary former manager Sean Dyche, it’s a lively spot that’s become iconic for Clarets supporters. Expect a buzzing matchday atmosphere, plenty of space inside and outside, and walls decorated with Burnley memorabilia.
The Cricket Club (Belvedere Road, next to Turf Moor). Situated right beside the stadium, Burnley Cricket Club is a classic matchday stop. Known for its friendly service, decent prices, and ability to handle large crowds, it’s one of the most convenient options for supporters looking to grab a pint before heading through the turnstiles.
The Bridge Bier Huis (Bank Parade). A short 10-minute walk from the ground, The Bridge is an award-winning alehouse with a wide range of real ales and continental beers. It has a slightly more relaxed vibe than the closer pubs, making it popular with both home and visiting supporters who want good beer and a friendly welcome.
The Boot Inn (St James’s Street). About a 10–15 minute walk from Turf Moor, The Boot is a traditional Burnley boozer that draws a loyal pre-match crowd. Known for its cheap pints and no-nonsense atmosphere, it’s a solid choice if you want something straightforward and lively.
The Ministry of Ale (Yorkshire Street). Tucked away near the stadium, this micro-pub is perfect for those who prefer cask and craft ales in a more intimate setting. It’s smaller than most of the other options, so it fills up quickly, but it’s a gem for beer enthusiasts on a matchday.
The Turf Hotel (Yorkshire Street, near Turf Moor). Another well-established supporters’ pub close to the stadium, The Turf Hotel is known for its matchday atmosphere, friendly locals, and convenience. It’s been a staple for fans for years and is just minutes from the turnstiles.
The Coal Yard (Yorkshire Street, near Burnley Central Station). A great option if you’re arriving in Burnley by train, around 15 minutes from Turf Moor on foot. A modern-style bar with good drinks and space for groups to meet before heading to the ground.
The Bootleggers Bar (Manchester Road, Burnley town centre). Located in the town centre, about a 20-minute walk or a short bus/taxi ride from Turf Moor. Popular with younger fans and groups, it has live music at times, affordable drinks, and a lively matchday buzz.
