The Ground
The AESSEAL New York Stadium, standing proudly on the banks of the River Don in Rotherham, has been the home of Rotherham United Football Club since 2012. Purpose-built to usher the Millers into a new era, it replaced the much-loved Millmoor ground and has quickly become a symbol of both ambition and renewal for the club and its community.
With a capacity of just over 12,000, the New York Stadium is compact by modern standards, yet it captures the intensity and closeness that defines lower-league football. The design ensures that supporters are close to the action, amplifying the atmosphere on matchdays as the Millers push for success in the Championship and League One.
The stadium’s layout contributes to its character. The West Stand serves as the main stand, housing corporate facilities, media areas, and a large core of home support. The KCM Recycling North Stand is known for its energy and noise, where Rotherham’s most vocal fans rally behind their side. Opposite, the Ben Bennett Family East Stand provides a welcoming environment for younger supporters and families, while the Mears South Stand typically hosts away fans, adding to the competitive edge of matchdays. Together, the four stands create a stadium that, while modern and functional, maintains the authenticity of a football-first ground.
Though a relatively new venue, the New York Stadium already plays a central role in Rotherham’s identity. Its name pays homage to the area’s industrial past, referencing the historic “New York” district of Rotherham, once home to foundries and factories. Beyond club football, the stadium has hosted international fixtures, women’s football, and community events, cementing its place as more than just a sporting arena.
Situated close to Rotherham town centre, with easy access to the railway station and main roads, the ground is both convenient and symbolic — a landmark of regeneration for a proud South Yorkshire town, the Millers and their supporters.
