Ground: Boundary Park

Capacity: 10.638

Location: Furtherwood Road, Oldham

Country: United Kingdom

The Ground

  • Boundary Park, located in Oldham, has been the home of Oldham Athletic Football Club since 1904. Long associated with the grit and determination of football in the North West, it has developed into one of the country’s most distinctive grounds, shaped by more than a century of highs, lows, and deep community connection. Known for its exposed setting and fierce winter conditions, Boundary Park is as much a test of endurance for supporters as it is a stage for the game itself, earning its place as one of English football’s most recognisable traditional venues.

  • The stadium has undergone numerous changes throughout its history, reflecting both the club’s ambitions and the shifting demands of the sport. Once boasting open terraces and a reputation as one of the coldest grounds in England, it has gradually modernised while retaining its authenticity. Today, Boundary Park has a capacity of  13,186, a scale that balances the proud support of Latics fans with the intimacy of a ground embedded firmly within its town.

  • Boundary Park’s layout captures its unique character. The Jimmy Frizzell Stand, named in honour of one of the club’s great managers, provides the main hub of home support, combining seating with a traditional footballing atmosphere. The Joe Royle Stand, opened in 2015, offers modern facilities, hospitality, and improved capacity, reflecting the club’s recent drive to upgrade its home. Opposite, the Chaddy End is a historic gathering point for vocal Latics fans, while the Rochdale Road Stand typically houses away supporters, ensuring the atmosphere remains competitive and vibrant on matchdays. Together, the stands form a blend of tradition and redevelopment that mirrors the club’s own fluctuating fortune

  • Despite the changes, Boundary Park remains inseparable from its community. Set on Furtherwood Road, surrounded by housing and local streets, it has always been a familiar landmark for generations of Oldham supporters. The tall floodlights rising into the skyline are visible from miles around, a beacon that signals footballing tradition and continuity in the town.

How to get to the Stadium

By train

  • Train to Manchester Victoria (around 7 miles away) or Manchester Piccadilly (around 8 miles away). Oldham itself no longer has a mainline railway station (the old Oldham Mumps station closed in 2009). So, if you’re travelling by rail, you’ll need to go into central Manchester first. From Manchester, you can switch to the Metrolink tram system: Take the Rochdale via Oldham line from either Manchester Victoria or Manchester Piccadilly Gardens. The nearest tram stop to Boundary Park is Westwood, about a 15–20 minute walk to the ground.

By Car

  • Through the M60 ring road then follow the A62. Parking Options: Official Parking: There is limited parking at the stadium itself (Joe Royle Stand car park), usually reserved for officials, players, and permit holders. Nearby Options: Matchday parking is available at Oldham Royal Hospital (a short walk from the stadium). Street parking is possible in the surrounding residential areas, but always check restrictions and be considerate to residents.

Airport

  • Manchester Airport (MAN)

  • Distance to Boundary Park: 20 miles (around 30–35 minutes by car, depending on traffic). . By train/tram: Train from Manchester Airport → Manchester Piccadilly (20 minutes). From Piccadilly, switch to the Metrolink (Rochdale via Oldham line)Westwood stop (25 minutes). Walk 15–20 minutes to the stadium. This is the most convenient and well-connected option.
