The Ground
The Riverside Stadium, standing on the banks of the River Tees, has been the home of Middlesbrough Football Club since 1995. Built to replace the much-loved Ayresome Park, the Riverside marked the dawn of a new era for Boro, combining modern facilities with the same sense of pride and identity that has long defined the club and its supporters.
With a capacity of around 34,000, the Riverside is among the largest stadiums in the Championship, offering both scale and atmosphere. Its bowl design ensures uninterrupted views from every seat, while the passion of the Red Army fills the ground on matchdays. The North Stand, often referred to as the "South Stand" equivalent of away days, houses some of the noisiest home support, while the East Stand stretches along the length of the pitch, offering a sweeping view of the action. The West Stand accommodates hospitality, the dugouts, and the tunnel where players emerge, while the South Stand is typically where away fans are housed, ensuring the stadium carries a charged and competitive edge.
Though more modern than many English grounds, the Riverside has built its own legacy over the past three decades. It remains a stadium that balances comfort with intensity, where the passion of Teesside is always on full display.
Located close to Middlesbrough town centre, the stadium is easily accessible by road, rail, and even on foot from the train station. Its riverside setting gives it a distinctive character, visible as you approach across the town’s bridges and roads, and on matchdays the whole area comes alive with colour and noise.

The Isaac Wilson (Wilson Street). A large Wetherspoons in the town centre, about a 15-minute walk to the stadium. Always busy on matchdays, it’s ideal for big groups looking for affordable food and drink before making the short walk down to the Riverside.
