The Ground
Kenilworth Road, located in the Bury Park area of Luton, Bedfordshire, has been the home of Luton Town Football Club since 1905. Known affectionately as "The Kenny," it is one of English football's most iconic traditional stadiums, nestled tightly within a residential area—a feature that gives it a distinctive charm and a famously intimate atmosphere
The stadium officially opened in 1905, originally serving as a modest ground for the newly established Luton Town FC. Over the decades, Kenilworth Road has been steadily developed, though its famously compact layout and unique entrances—particularly through rows of terraced houses—have become an enduring part of its character and folklore. Its Main Stand and other structures reflect the architectural styles of early to mid-20th century English football grounds, with little of the modern stadium uniformity seen elsewhere.
Today, Kenilworth Road remains both owned and operated by Luton Town FC, standing as one of the few surviving examples of a classic, close-quarters football ground in the English professional game. Its current capacity is approximately 12,056, making it one of the smallest stadiums in England's top divisions. Despite its size, the stadium is renowned for its intense, partisan atmosphere, where supporters are virtually on top of the pitch, creating a daunting environment for visiting teams
Historically, Kenilworth Road has witnessed significant moments in Luton Town’s history, from their rise through the divisions to their stints in the top flight, and more recently, their remarkable return to the Premier League in 2023 after decades away. The stadium has also seen various upgrades over time, including the installation of an artificial pitch in the 1980s—a pioneering move at the time—and more recently, structural improvements to meet modern safety standards.
