The Ground

  • Highbury Stadium, located in Fleetwood on the Lancashire coast, has been the home of Fleetwood Town FC since 1939. Rooted in a proud fishing town, the ground embodies the resilience and ambition of a community that has seen its club rise from the lower tiers of non-league football to become an established member of the English Football League. A modest yet fiercely atmospheric venue, Highbury reflects the determination of a club and town that have punched well above their weight in the modern game.

  • The stadium has undergone significant redevelopment in recent years, transforming from a small local ground into a modern football venue that meets league standards. While improvements have brought new seating, hospitality areas, and upgraded facilities, Highbury has retained its authenticity and the close-knit character that defines Fleetwood Town. Today, the stadium holds a capacity of just over 5,300, perfectly balancing the passionate support of the Cod Army with the intimacy of a traditional English football ground.

  • Highbury’s layout is central to its identity. The Parkside Stand, completed in 2011, serves as the stadium’s main stand, offering modern seating, hospitality lounges, and the beating heart of the club’s operations. Opposite lies the Highbury Stand, a traditional terrace that preserves the old-school matchday feel. Behind one goal stands the Memorial Stand, dedicated to Fleetwood’s fishing heritage and housing the noisiest home supporters, while the Percy Ronson Stand at the other end is typically reserved for away fans, ensuring a lively and competitive atmosphere on matchdays. Together, these stands create a venue that, while compact, delivers a matchday experience full of passion and pride.

  • Despite its size, Highbury Stadium remains inseparable from its surroundings. Situated on Park Avenue, just a short walk from Fleetwood’s seafront and town centre, it has long been a landmark for generations of Cod Army supporters.

Around the Stadium

  • Jim’s Bar (Highbury Stadium, Park Avenue). Located inside the ground itself, Jim’s Bar is Fleetwood Town’s official supporters’ bar. It’s the most convenient option for fans heading straight into the game, with multiple screens showing live football, plenty of drinks on tap, and a lively Cod Army atmosphere right on the doorstep of the pitch.

  • The Strawberry Gardens (Poulton Road). Just a short walk from Highbury, this is the go-to pre-match meeting point for Fleetwood fans. Known for its wide selection of cask ales, friendly staff, and buzzing matchday atmosphere, it’s a proper football pub and a must-visit for supporters.

  • The Royal Oak (Lord Street). Also close to the stadium, The Royal Oak is a traditional local boozer with affordable drinks and a welcoming vibe. It’s a favourite among home supporters looking for a classic pint before kick-off.

  • The Kings Arms (Lord Street). About a 10-minute walk from the ground, The Kings Arms draws a lively matchday crowd. With sports on the screens, well-priced pints, and plenty of space, it’s a solid choice for groups heading to Highbury.

  • The Thomas Drummond (London Street, town centre). A Wetherspoons pub in Fleetwood town centre, roughly 15 minutes on foot from the stadium. Known for cheap food and drink, it’s popular with both home and visiting fans looking for a convenient stop before or after the match.

  • The Mount Hotel (The Esplanade, seafront). Situated about a 15–20 minute walk from Highbury, this landmark hotel bar offers a more relaxed setting, with sea views and a broad drinks selection. A good option if you want to combine football with a bit of Fleetwood’s coastal charm.

  • The Ferry Café Bar (Fleetwood Ferry, near the tram stop). Close to the ferry terminal and tram stop, about 20 minutes from the ground, this spot is a handy meeting point for fans arriving by public transport. It serves drinks and snacks in a relaxed atmosphere.

  • The Queens Hotel (Poulton Road). Another traditional local within walking distance of the stadium, The Queens is known for its friendly welcome and loyal football following. It’s a reliable pre-match stop if the Strawberry Gardens is too busy.
