The Ground
St James Park, located in the heart of Exeter, Devon, has been the home of Exeter City Football Club since 1904. Tucked into a residential area just off Old Tiverton Road, the ground has evolved from humble beginnings into a well-loved lower-league stadium that balances tradition with modern touches.
The stadium first opened in 1904 and has remained at the same site for well over a century, undergoing several changes across the decades. A major redevelopment took place in the late 2010s, most notably with the construction of the Stagecoach Adam Stansfield Stand, named in honour of the late Exeter striker.
Today, St James Park is fully owned and operated by Exeter City FC, a supporter-owned club known for its strong connection to the community. With a current capacity of approximately 8,219, it is one of the smaller stadiums in the English Football League, yet it is widely admired for its warm atmosphere and loyal fan base. The Big Bank terrace, one of the largest standing terraces in the league, is the heart of the home support.
The stadium features a traditional four-stand layout, with each stand closely hugging the pitch, offering fans excellent sightlines and a real sense of connection to the action. While it may not have the scale of modern Premier League venues, St James Park is treasured for its authenticity, a place where football feels close, raw, and real.
