The Ground

  • The SMH Group Stadium, still fondly known to many as the Proact Stadium or simply the Technique, has been the home of Chesterfield FC since 2010, when the club moved from their historic Saltergate ground. Modern, comfortable, and purpose-built, it represents a new era for the Spireites, while maintaining the strong sense of identity that has defined the club for generations.

  • With a capacity of just over 10,000, the SMH Group Stadium is one of the more modern arenas in the lower divisions, designed with both atmosphere and supporter comfort in mind. Its four stands offer a balanced mix of facilities and tradition: the East Stand houses hospitality and executive suites, the Karen Child Stand is the focal point for the most vocal home support, the Harold Lilleker & Sons (North) Stand provides a family-friendly experience, while the Motan Colortronic (South) Stand is typically reserved for away fans. Together they create a ground that is both welcoming and intimidating, depending on which colours you wear.

  • Though it lacks the long Victorian history of Saltergate, the SMH Group Stadium has quickly established itself as a true football home. Its clean sightlines, modern amenities, and strong community links reflect Chesterfield’s ambition to blend progress with tradition.

  • Situated on Sheffield Road, around a mile north of Chesterfield town centre, the stadium is easily reached by road and rail. Chesterfield railway station is roughly a 20-minute walk away, while several bus routes serve the ground directly. On matchdays, the pubs and streets around Sheffield Road buzz with anticipation, and the stadium itself stands as a symbol of a club proud of its heritage yet looking firmly to the future.
