The Ground
Whaddon Road, located in the Whaddon area of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, has been the home of Cheltenham Town Football Club since 1932. Nestled within a residential neighborhood northeast of the town centre, it is one of the smaller yet most characterful stadiums in the English Football League.
The ground officially opened in 1927 but became the full-time home of Cheltenham Town in 1932, as the club rose through non-league ranks to become a steady presence in the EFL. Over time, Whaddon Road has seen a series of incremental upgrades, reflecting the club's progress while maintaining its traditional charm.
Today, Whaddon Road is owned and operated by Cheltenham Town FC. With a capacity of approximately 7,066, it ranks among the smaller venues in the league but is well-regarded for its close-knit atmosphere and loyal home support, particularly from the vocal Optimising IT Stand (formerly the Prestbury Road End).
The stadium features a four-stand layout, with a mix of seated and terraced areas. These include the Hazlewoods Stand (Main Stand), the Optimising IT Stand behind the goal, the Colin Farmer Stand on the opposite side, and the Away Stand (Speedy Skips Stand), which offers a good view for visiting fans. Each stand is positioned close to the pitch, creating an intimate and engaging matchday experience.
