The Ground

Bloomfield Road, located in the heart of Blackpool, has been the home of Blackpool FC since 1901. Rooted in one of England’s most iconic seaside towns, the ground embodies the colour, resilience, and passion of a community that has seen its club reach the heights of the First Division and the FA Cup, while also enduring the struggles of lower-league football. A stadium with both tradition and ambition, Bloomfield Road reflects the pride of a town and its long-standing relationship with the game.

The stadium has undergone significant redevelopment in the modern era, transforming from a historic but ageing venue into a ground that meets contemporary standards. Improvements across the 2000s brought new seating, facilities, and hospitality areas, while still preserving the identity of a club that has long been a fixture of English football. Today, Bloomfield Road has a capacity of just over 16,000, a size that balances the loyal support of the Seasiders with the intimacy and atmosphere of a traditional football ground.

Bloomfield Road’s layout is central to its matchday character. The West Stand (Stan Mortensen North Stand) serves as the main stand, housing hospitality, media facilities, and a large section of home supporters. Opposite is the East Stand, completed as part of the ground’s redevelopment, offering modern seating and a sweeping view of the pitch. Behind one goal lies the North Stand, known as the home of the noisiest Seasiders fans, where chants and atmosphere drive the team forward. At the opposite end, the South Stand is typically allocated to visiting supporters, ensuring matchdays carry a lively and competitive edge. Together, these stands create a venue that, while modest compared to Premier League giants, delivers passion and authenticity in abundance.

Despite its size, Bloomfield Road remains deeply tied to its surroundings. Situated on Seasiders Way, just minutes from Blackpool’s famous seafront and town centre, the stadium is both a landmark and a gathering point for generations of Seasiders.
