The club began its journey under a different identity and initially competed in the regional levels of Turkish football. During its early development, it became associated with the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality and competed as Mardin Büyükşehir Başakspor, using a blue-and-yellow identity.
A significant transformation took place around 2020, when the club became Mardin Fosfat Spor. The change was accompanied by a completely redesigned visual identity that introduced the red and navy blue colours now associated with the club. The new crest also incorporated Mardin's famous skyline, emphasising the connection between the football team and one of Turkey's most historically distinctive cities.
