The crest history of Kasımpaşa SK reflects the club's strong connection with its home neighbourhood in Istanbul and its evolution from a traditional local sports club into an established professional football team. Throughout the different designs, blue and white, the founding year 1921, and symbols of Turkish identity have remained important elements.
Between 1962 and 1996, Kasımpaşa used a traditional circular emblem dominated by dark blue and white. A prominent horizontal panel displayed the initials “K.G.K.”, referring to an earlier form of the club's name. Above the circle was a red shield containing the white Turkish crescent and star, while the founding year 1921 appeared prominently at the bottom. The design strongly emphasised both the club's heritage and Turkish national identity.
In 1996, the crest was modernised while retaining most of the elements of its predecessor. The circular blue-and-white structure and red crescent-and-star shield remained, but the initials were replaced by the full name “KASIMPAŞA” across the centre. The year 1921 continued to appear beneath it. This created a cleaner and more immediately recognisable identity while maintaining a clear visual connection with the historic badge.
A much more significant redesign arrived in 2012, coinciding with Kasımpaşa's return to the Süper Lig and the beginning of one of the most stable periods in the club's modern history. The old circular structure was replaced by a contemporary blue shield-shaped emblem.
The modern crest displays KASIMPAŞA prominently across the upper section, with SPOR KULÜBÜ written underneath. At its centre is a red circle containing the white crescent and star of the Turkish flag. Flowing blue-and-white shapes beneath the central symbol create a distinctive modern appearance, while 1921 remains at the bottom to preserve the connection with the club's foundation.
Despite the substantial redesign, the current badge maintains the key elements that have defined Kasımpaşa's visual identity for decades: blue and white colours, the Turkish crescent and star, the club name and the founding year 1921.
Kasimpasa SK Club History
Founded in 1921, Kasımpaşa Spor Kulübü is a historic Turkish football club based in the Kasımpaşa neighbourhood of Istanbul's Beyoğlu district. The club's roots lie in local sporting organisations from the area, and it has traditionally represented one of Istanbul's oldest working-class neighbourhoods. Kasımpaşa plays in blue and white and is commonly known as “Apaçiler” (The Apaches).
The club emerged from the merger of local teams in Kasımpaşa and gradually established itself within Istanbul football. During the decades before the creation of a nationwide professional league, Kasımpaşa competed alongside many of the city's established clubs and developed a strong neighbourhood identity.
Kasımpaşa was among the clubs competing in the early seasons of Turkey's national top division following the establishment of the Milli Lig in 1959. However, unlike Istanbul's dominant trio of Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş, Kasımpaşa struggled to maintain a permanent place at the highest level and subsequently spent long periods in Turkey's lower divisions.
The club experienced particularly difficult decades during the latter part of the twentieth century, at times falling deep into the Turkish football pyramid. Nevertheless, its local identity survived, and the beginning of the 21st century marked a significant revival.
Kasımpaşa's modern rise accelerated during the 2000s. The club climbed rapidly through the divisions and returned to the Süper Lig in 2007 after an absence of more than four decades. Although relegations followed, Kasımpaşa repeatedly fought its way back to the top flight.
After winning promotion again in 2012, Kasımpaşa entered the most stable top-flight period in its history. Improved infrastructure and greater financial resources allowed the club to attract both established Turkish players and notable international footballers.
Among the best-known players to represent Kasımpaşa are Ryan Babel, Ricardo Quaresma, Eren Derdiyok, Mbaye Diagne, Mahmoud Hassan “Trézéguet” and long-serving goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson. The club has regularly developed or recruited players who later moved to larger Turkish or European teams.
Kasımpaşa plays its home matches at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium, located in the heart of the Kasımpaşa neighbourhood. Its compact urban setting gives the ground a distinctive character compared with Istanbul's much larger modern stadiums.
Despite sharing Istanbul with several of Turkey's biggest clubs, Kasımpaşa does not have a single rivalry comparable in scale to the Intercontinental Derby or the major Istanbul derbies. Matches against other Istanbul clubs nevertheless carry considerable local significance, particularly encounters with historically rooted neighbourhood teams.
