CD Moquegua Crest History
The crest history of Club Deportivo Moquegua is unusual because it reflects not simply a sequence of redesigns, but the transformation of the football project from its origins within the Universidad César Vallejo (UCV) structure into an independent club representing Moquegua.
The earliest crest shown here, used from 2020 to 2023, clearly belonged to the team's UCV period. It used a traditional shield with a predominantly dark blue, light blue, black and red colour scheme.Three red geometric elements appeared above the shield, directly reflecting the visual identity associated with Universidad César Vallejo. Inside the upper section appeared the name MOQUEGUA, establishing the team's regional identity. The centre was dominated by the large white letters UCV, with CLUB DEPORTIVO written underneath. The lower section contained several diagonal light-blue stripes against a darker blue background.The year 1996 appeared at the bottom of the shield, referring to the institutional history of Universidad César Vallejo rather than the foundation of the Moquegua club itself.This first badge therefore represented the team primarily as a regional UCV football project based in Moquegua.
A dramatic visual transformation followed in 2024. The UCV lettering remained, but virtually every other element of the previous badge disappeared.The restrained blue shield was replaced by a much more colourful modern emblem using orange, black, green, white and gold.At the centre appeared imagery representing Moquegua and its regional landscape, giving the badge a much stronger local character.The name MOQUEGUA was displayed prominently across the centre in large white letters.The smaller UCV initials remained at the bottom, preserving the connection with Universidad César Vallejo. A gold star was positioned above the crest. The 2024 badge can therefore be viewed as an important transitional design. Whereas the earlier crest placed UCV at the centre and Moquegua in a secondary position, the 2024 version reversed that hierarchy. Moquegua became the dominant identity, while UCV was reduced to a smaller supporting element.
This transition prepared the way for an even more fundamental change in 2025. The club adopted a completely new black-and-gold identity under the name C.D. Moquegua.Almost every visual reference to Universidad César Vallejo disappeared. The new crest takes the form of an elegant black shield surrounded by a broad gold border. A decorative geometric pattern runs around the interior edge, giving the badge an appearance influenced by Andean and pre-Columbian visual motifs. At the centre is a large stylised gold “M”, immediately identifying the club with Moquegua. The monogram is constructed in a symmetrical geometric form rather than conventional lettering, creating a distinctive standalone symbol for the club. Within the centre of the M appears the year 2022. This is an important detail because it indicates the foundation date associated with the club's underlying Moquegua football project. Above the monogram is a small sun-like symbol, further reinforcing the regional decorative character of the design. The name C.D. MOQUEGUA appears separately above the shield in gold capital letters. A single gold star crowns the entire composition. The move from blue to black and gold represents a particularly significant break with the UCV era. Blue had visually connected the club with Universidad César Vallejo, while the new colours establish an identity belonging specifically to Club Deportivo Moquegua.
CD Moquegua Club History
Club Deportivo Moquegua is a relatively young professional football club from Moquegua in southern Peru, whose development is closely connected with the regional football project previously associated with Universidad César Vallejo (UCV).
The origins of the present club can be traced to 2022, when a football project was established in Moquegua with the objective of developing local talent and progressing through the highly competitive lower levels of Peruvian football.
During its early years, the team operated within the sporting structure associated with Universidad César Vallejo and became known as UCV Moquegua. This connection was clearly visible in the club's original identity.The team developed rapidly and emerged as one of the strongest representatives of the Moquegua region.
Its progress was particularly significant for a region that has historically had far less representation in professional football than Lima, Arequipa, Trujillo or Cusco. The club's rise therefore carried a strong regional dimension. Rather than representing only a university sporting project, the team increasingly came to represent Moquegua itself.
UCV Moquegua competed successfully in the national promotion structure and earned its opportunity to move into Peru's professional football system. This represented an important milestone because promotion brought Moquegua back into the national professional football landscape. The transition into professional competition was followed by another major institutional change. Ahead of the 2025 season, the club adopted the identity Club Deportivo Moquegua. The change effectively separated the public football identity of the team from the Universidad César Vallejo branding that had characterised its formative years.
Unlike historic Peruvian giants such as Alianza Lima, Universitario de Deportes and Sporting Cristal, C.D. Moquegua does not possess generations of established rivalries or a century-long supporter tradition.
