Viktoria Köln Crest History

The first recognisable Viktoria crest appeared in 1957, when SC Rapid Köln merged with SC Preußen Dellbrück to form SC Viktoria 04 Köln. The badge featured a traditional shield design in the club's red, black and white colours, with a prominent "V" representing Viktoria. The crest established the visual identity that would influence every future emblem.

A new chapter began in 1994, when Viktoria merged with SC Brück to create SCB Preußen Köln. The club adopted a redesigned crest that combined elements from both predecessor clubs while retaining the familiar red, black and white colour scheme. The emphasis shifted toward the new club name, reflecting the merger rather than the historic Viktoria identity.

In 2002, the club was renamed SCB Viktoria Köln, prompting another badge redesign. The word "Viktoria" returned to the forefront, while the crest adopted a cleaner, more modern shield shape with improved typography. Further refinements followed in 2007, simplifying the artwork and producing a stronger, more contemporary identity without departing from the club's traditional colours.

Following the insolvency of SCB Viktoria Köln in 2010, FC Viktoria Köln 1904 e.V. was founded as its successor. The new club introduced the current crest, which pays tribute to both the refounded club and its historical roots. The badge features a bold black "V" at its centre, symbolising Viktoria, set within a circular red-and-white emblem. The year 1904 acknowledges the foundation of FC Germania Kalk, the earliest predecessor club, rather than the 2010 refounding date, emphasising more than a century of footballing tradition.

Viktoria Köln Club History

FC Viktoria Köln was founded on 22 June 2010 following the insolvency of SCB Viktoria Köln, although the club traces its footballing heritage back to 1904 through FC Germania Kalk, the oldest of its predecessor clubs. Over more than a century, a series of mergers involving clubs such as VfR Köln 04, SC Rapid Köln, SC Viktoria Köln and SCB Viktoria Köln shaped the modern club, preserving one of the richest footballing traditions on the eastern side of Cologne. 

After its formation, FC Viktoria Köln was initially required to begin in the Kreisliga D, the lowest level of German football. However, the incorporation of the senior football department of FC Junkersdorf in 2011 enabled the club to compete in the NRW-Liga, providing a platform for rapid progress through the German league system. Viktoria immediately established itself as one of the strongest clubs outside the professional divisions, winning the NRW-Liga title in 2012 to secure promotion to the Regionalliga West.

Over the following seven seasons, Viktoria became one of the Regionalliga West's leading clubs. Despite several promotion challenges ending in disappointment, including defeat in the 2017 promotion play-offs, the club remained competitive and continued investing in its long-term development both on and off the pitch. Persistence was finally rewarded in 2018–19, when Viktoria won the Regionalliga West championship and earned promotion to the 3. Liga, marking the club's return to professional football for the first time in nearly four decades through its historical lineage.

Since promotion, FC Viktoria Köln has established itself as a competitive club in the 3. Liga. While operating with more modest financial resources than many rivals, the club has built a reputation for developing young players, playing attractive football and providing a pathway for emerging talent. Regular appearances in the Mittelrheinpokal, which the club has won numerous times since its refounding, have also ensured continued participation in the DFB-Pokal.

Today, FC Viktoria Köln represents the footballing tradition of Cologne's right bank of the Rhine (Schäl Sick) and continues to build upon more than a century of history inherited from its predecessor clubs. Playing its home matches at the Sportpark Höhenberg, Viktoria has established itself as one of the city's leading clubs alongside 1. FC Köln and Fortuna Köln. Its strongest rivalry is with Fortuna Köln in the Kölner Stadtderby, while matches against 1. FC Köln, particularly in regional competitions and pre-season fixtures, also carry significant local importance.
