Football Club Bourg-Péronnas adopted its first official crest in 1942, following the merger of FC Bourg and US Péronnas. The badge featured the initials FCBP arranged around a traditional black-and-white football, framed by blue and red outlines. The simple design reflected the club's identity while emphasising football as its central focus. This crest remained virtually unchanged for more than seventy years, accompanying the club through its rise from the regional leagues to the professional divisions.
In 2015, following promotion to Ligue 2 and the club's rebranding as Football Bourg-en-Bresse Péronnas 01 (FBBP01), a completely new shield-shaped crest was introduced. The modern blue shield prominently displayed the initials FBBP, while the club's full name appeared in smaller lettering on the right. A stylised pink-orange bird, inspired by the logos of the municipalities of Bourg-en-Bresse and Péronnas, stretched diagonally across the badge, symbolising the union between the two neighbouring communities. At the base of the shield, the outline of the Ain department was incorporated alongside the number 01, the official department code of Ain, reinforcing the club's regional identity.
FBBP01 Club History
Founded in 1942, Football Club Bourg-Péronnas was created through the merger of FC Bourg and US Bourg-Péronnas, bringing together the football traditions of the neighbouring communities of Bourg-en-Bresse and Péronnas during the Second World War. For much of its early history, the club competed in the regional leagues of the Lyonnais, steadily building a reputation as a well-organised amateur side while relying on strong local support and volunteer commitment.
The club began its rise during the 1970s and 1990s, earning promotion to the Division d'Honneur, the highest regional level, before winning the championship in 1994 to reach the national divisions for the first time. Bourg-Péronnas also became known for its impressive performances in the Coupe de France. During the 1992–93 competition, the club pushed eventual finalists FC Nantes to a penalty shootout, while in 1997–98 it enjoyed the greatest cup run in its history by eliminating Montpellier and FC Metz before reaching the quarter-finals, where it lost to Olympique Lyonnais. As an amateur club, becoming the first from the Ain department to reach that stage of the competition was considered a remarkable achievement.
Further progress followed in the 2000s. Promotion to the Championnat National in 2003 established the club among France's leading semi-professional sides, although relegation followed three years later. Under coach Hervé Della Maggiore, Bourg-Péronnas returned to the National and achieved the greatest sporting success in its history by finishing third in 2014–15, earning promotion to Ligue 2 for the first time. To mark its arrival in professional football, the club adopted the name Football Bourg-en-Bresse Péronnas 01 (FBBP01), highlighting both the city of Bourg-en-Bresse and the Ain department (01).
FBBP01 spent three consecutive seasons in Ligue 2 between 2015 and 2018, successfully avoiding relegation in its first two campaigns despite operating with one of the smallest budgets in the division. Although the club returned to the Championnat National in 2018 after losing the relegation play-off to Grenoble Foot 38, its professional spell significantly strengthened its infrastructure, including improvements to the Stade Marcel-Verchère and the club's training facilities. Financial difficulties later resulted in the loss of professional status in 2020, followed by relegation to National 2 in 2023. The setback proved temporary, however, as FBBP01 won the 2023–24 National 2 championship to secure an immediate return to the Championnat National.
FBBP01's principal regional rival is FC Villefranche Beaujolais, with meetings between the two clubs often regarded as the most significant derby in the area due to their geographical proximity and frequent encounters in the national divisions. Fixtures against AS Lyon-Duchère have also developed into competitive regional contests in recent years.
