Odense BK Crest History

In 1979, Odense Boldklub introduced a modern circular crest that reflected the club's growing status in Danish football. The badge featured the initials "OB" in white on a deep blue background, surrounded by a white ring outlined in gold. The clean, minimalist design moved away from more traditional football emblems while retaining the club's historic blue-and-white colours. 

In 1986, the crest underwent a subtle refinement while preserving its familiar circular shape and prominent OB initials. The gold detailing was removed in favour of a cleaner blue-and-white colour palette, giving the badge a more modern and streamlined appearance. Although the changes were modest, the updated emblem reflected contemporary graphic trends while maintaining the identity supporters had embraced during the club's rise to the top of Danish football. This version remained in use throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s.

In 1996, Odense Boldklub introduced the simplified crest that remains in use today. The badge retained the classic circular format but featured a bolder, sans-serif OB monogram with a darker blue central disc and a cleaner white outer ring. By reducing unnecessary detailing, the redesign created a timeless and highly recognisable identity that reflected the club's traditional values while adapting to modern branding standards. 

Odense BK Club History

Founded on 12 July 1887 as Odense Cricket Club, the organisation is one of Denmark's oldest sports clubs. Football was introduced in 1889, prompting a name change to Odense Boldklub (OB). The club quickly became a pioneer outside Copenhagen, becoming the first provincial club to own its own football ground in 1894. Throughout the early twentieth century, OB established itself as the leading club on the island of Funen, winning numerous regional championships before becoming a regular participant in Denmark's national competitions.

OB's golden era arrived during the late 1970s and 1980s under legendary manager Richard Møller Nielsen. The club won its first Danish championship in 1977, followed by further league titles in 1982 and 1989. During this period, OB also lifted the Danish Cup in 1983, 1991 and 1993, establishing itself as one of Denmark's dominant clubs. The team's disciplined, well-organised style became a hallmark of Danish football, while many players went on to represent the national team, including members of Denmark's famous UEFA Euro 1992-winning squad.

OB also built a strong reputation in European competition. The club's most famous international achievement came in the 1994–95 UEFA Cup, when it eliminated Real Madrid in one of the greatest upsets in Danish football history. After losing 3–2 in Spain, OB produced a remarkable 2–0 victory in Odense thanks to late goals from Ulrik Pedersen and Morten Bisgaard, knocking the Spanish giants out of the competition before reaching the quarter-finals. The victory remains one of the defining moments in the club's history and is remembered as the "Miracle in Madrid" or "The Miracle against Real Madrid."

During the 2000s, OB remained one of Denmark's strongest clubs, winning the Danish Cup in 2002 and 2007 while regularly qualifying for European competitions. Following a difficult period that included relegation from the Superliga in 2024, OB secured an immediate return to Denmark's top flight, underlining the club's resilience and its ambition to remain among the country's leading football institutions.

OB's biggest rivalry is with AGF in the Classic Derby (Klassikeren), one of Denmark's oldest and most prestigious fixtures between two of the country's traditional football powers. The club also shares intense local rivalries with fellow Odense clubs B 1909 and B 1913, although those fixtures have become increasingly rare due to the clubs competing in different divisions.
