FC Midtjylland Crest History
When FC Midtjylland was founded in 1999 through the merger of Ikast FS and Herning Fremad, the club introduced a completely new visual identity. The inaugural crest featured a circular badge with a black outer ring bearing the club name and founding year, surrounding a striking red inner circle containing a stylised white wolf's head. Chosen to represent the club's nickname, Ulvene (The Wolves), the wolf symbolised strength, unity and the determination of the people of Central Jutland. The modern design immediately established one of the most distinctive identities in Danish football and accompanied Midtjylland throughout its rise from a newly formed club to one of the country's dominant forces, winning multiple Danish Superliga titles, Danish Cups and becoming a regular participant in UEFA competitions.
In 2025, FC Midtjylland introduced a refined version of its iconic crest. While preserving the familiar circular shape, wolf's head, club name and founding year, the redesign featured cleaner lines and a deeper burgundy-red inner circle, giving the badge a more modern and premium appearance.

FC Midtjylland Club History
Founded on 2 February 1999, FC Midtjylland was created through the merger of Herning Fremad and Ikast FS, two ambitious clubs from Central Jutland that joined forces with the goal of establishing a football powerhouse capable of challenging Denmark's traditional elite. The new club immediately inherited Ikast FS's place in the Danish First Division and secured promotion to the Danish Superliga in its inaugural season. From the outset, Midtjylland distinguished itself through an innovative approach to coaching, talent development and sports science, quickly becoming one of the most progressive clubs in Scandinavian football.
A defining moment came in 2004 with the establishment of Denmark's first full-time football academy. Inspired by successful youth systems in France, the academy transformed player development in Danish football and produced a succession of internationals, including Simon Kjær, Winston Reid, Jonas Lössl and Pione Sisto. Combined with an increasing emphasis on performance analysis and data-driven recruitment, the academy became a cornerstone of the club's philosophy and helped Midtjylland establish itself as a consistent challenger for domestic honours.
The club's breakthrough arrived in 2014–15, when FC Midtjylland won its first Danish Superliga championship, becoming the first club founded after the introduction of professional football in Denmark to lift the national title. Further league championships followed in 2017–18, 2019–20 and 2023–24, while the club also captured the Danish Cup in 2018–19 and 2021–22. On the European stage, Midtjylland earned widespread recognition by reaching the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 in 2015–16 and becoming only the second Danish club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2020–21. Victories over clubs such as Manchester United, Lazio, Sporting CP and Celtic further enhanced the club's growing international reputation.
FC Midtjylland's fiercest rivalry is with Viborg FF in the Midtjysk Derby (Central Jutland Derby). The rivalry is driven by geographical proximity and the debate over which club truly represents the heart of Jutland, with Viborg supporters often claiming to be the "real Midtjylland."
