FC København Crest History

When F.C. København was founded in 1992 through the merger of Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB) and Boldklubben 1903, the club adopted a completely new visual identity. The inaugural crest featured a stylised blue lion's head inside a white circular badge, inspired by the lions from the City of Copenhagen's coat of arms. The club's name curved around the upper edge in blue lettering, while two red curved stripes on the left side represented the colours of the Danish flag. The modern design symbolised the birth of a new club while establishing a strong connection with Copenhagen's civic heritage. 

In 2024, FC København introduced a refined version of its iconic crest. While retaining the familiar circular badge, blue lion's head, club name and red stripes, the design was subtly modernised with cleaner lines and improved proportions for greater clarity across digital and print media. The most notable addition was the inclusion of three gold championship stars above the crest, earned after the club won its 15th Danish Superliga title in the 2022–23 season. In Danish football, each gold star represents five national league championships, making FC København the first Danish club to display three championship stars. The updated crest preserves the club's instantly recognisable identity while celebrating more than three decades of domestic dominance and European success.

FC København Club History

Founded on 1 July 1992, F.C. København (FC Copenhagen) was created as a professional superstructure bringing together the first teams of Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB), founded in 1876, and Boldklubben 1903 (B1903). The merger combined more than a century of football tradition with the ambition of establishing a club capable of dominating Danish football and competing regularly in Europe. The timing coincided with the opening of the newly redeveloped Parken Stadium, giving the club a modern home and a strong platform for future success.

Success arrived immediately. FC Copenhagen won the 1992–93 Danish Superliga in its inaugural season and quickly established itself as one of Denmark's leading clubs. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the club became a consistent title challenger, building a professional structure that set new standards in Danish football. Domestic dominance soon followed, with multiple league championships and Danish Cup victories turning FCK into the country's most successful club of the modern era.

The club also established itself as Denmark's leading representative in European competition. FC Copenhagen became the first Danish club to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage on multiple occasions and, in 2010–11, made history by becoming the first Danish side to reach the Champions League Round of 16. Memorable European victories over clubs such as Manchester United, Celtic, Ajax, Club Brugge, Galatasaray and Manchester City helped cement the club's reputation as one of Scandinavia's strongest football institutions.

Throughout the 2010s and 2020s, FC Copenhagen strengthened its position as Denmark's dominant club. Regular participation in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League, combined with continued investment in youth development and modern facilities, ensured sustained domestic and international success. The club won its 15th Danish league championship in 2022–23, earning the right to display three gold championship stars above its crest under Danish football tradition, with each star representing five league titles. 

FC Copenhagen's fiercest rivalry is with Brøndby IF in the New Firm, the biggest and most passionate fixture in Danish football. Since the club's foundation in 1992, meetings between the Copenhagen rivals have regularly decided league championships and domestic honours while dividing the Danish capital between supporters of the two clubs.
