São Bernardo FC Crest History
The crest history of São Bernardo Futebol Clube is relatively short compared with many traditional Brazilian clubs, reflecting the club's foundation in 2004. Throughout its existence, however, the identity has remained remarkably consistent. The colours yellow and black, the football and the geographical silhouette representing the municipality of São Bernardo do Campo have been central elements from the beginning.
The original 2004–2018 crest used a traditional shield with a predominantly white background, surrounded by a yellow and black outline. At its centre was a large black circle containing a football alongside a yellow silhouette representing the territory of São Bernardo do Campo. This immediately connected the newly founded club with its home city in the industrial ABC region of Greater São Paulo.
A yellow banner formed the lower part of the shield, carrying the full name São Bernardo Futebol Clube in black lettering. The combination of yellow, black and white established the visual identity that would lead to the club's nickname Tigre do ABC (Tiger of the ABC).
In 2019, São Bernardo introduced the first major redesign of its crest. Rather than abandoning the original concept, the club effectively reversed its visual emphasis. The shield became predominantly black, while the border and lower banner remained yellow, creating a stronger and more immediately recognisable appearance.
The central symbolism was preserved in the 2019–Present design. The football remained positioned beside the yellow geographical silhouette, but both now appeared against the black background of the shield. The yellow banner continued to display São Bernardo Futebol Clube, maintaining a clear link with the original 2004 badge.
São Bernardo FC Club History
São Bernardo Futebol Clube was founded on 20 December 2004 in São Bernardo do Campo, one of the major cities of the industrial ABC region of Greater São Paulo. Created with the ambition of giving the municipality a stronger presence in professional football, the club adopted yellow and black as its colours and became known as the Tigre do ABC (Tiger of the ABC).
São Bernardo began its competitive journey in the lower levels of the Campeonato Paulista. Unlike many of Brazil's traditional clubs, which required decades to progress through the state system, São Bernardo developed rapidly. The club steadily climbed the divisions of São Paulo football during its first years and began establishing itself as one of the emerging teams from the ABC region.
An important milestone arrived in 2010, when São Bernardo earned promotion to the Campeonato Paulista Série A1, bringing the young club into the top division of one of Brazil's strongest state championships. Competing against established powers such as Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos and São Paulo considerably increased the club's profile.
São Bernardo's early years in the Paulista top flight were characterised by periods of promotion and relegation, demonstrating the difficulty of establishing a permanent place among São Paulo's leading clubs. Nevertheless, the Tigre continued developing its structure and gradually became a competitive force at state level.
One of the club's first significant trophies came in 2013, when São Bernardo won the Copa Paulista. The competition provided an important breakthrough and demonstrated that the club could compete successfully against more established teams from across the state.
Another major achievement followed in 2021, when São Bernardo won the Campeonato Paulista Série A2. The title secured promotion back to the Campeonato Paulista's top division and marked the beginning of one of the strongest periods in the club's short history.
After returning to the Paulistão, São Bernardo produced increasingly impressive campaigns. The club became known for its organisation and ability to compete with opponents possessing considerably larger budgets and supporter bases. Strong performances against the traditional giants of São Paulo helped establish São Bernardo as more than simply a regional newcomer.
At national level, São Bernardo also began climbing through the Brazilian league structure. A strong campaign in the 2022 Campeonato Brasileiro Série D resulted in promotion to Série C, placing the club in the third tier of Brazilian football and representing one of the most important achievements since its foundation.
São Bernardo quickly became competitive in Série C. Rather than merely fighting to remain in the division, the Tigre do ABC challenged near the upper end of the competition, bringing the club progressively closer to the higher levels of the Brazilian national pyramid.
The club plays its home matches at the Estádio Primeiro de Maio, one of the principal sporting venues in São Bernardo do Campo. The stadium's name commemorates International Workers' Day, an appropriate connection with a city historically associated with Brazil's automobile industry, factories and organised labour movement.
São Bernardo's geographical position also gives the club a strong regional identity. The ABC Paulista has a long football tradition, and matches against neighbouring clubs such as Santo André carry particular local importance. These encounters contribute to a developing regional rivalry as São Bernardo builds its own traditions and supporter culture.
