The Ground
The Merkur Spiel-Arena is the home of Fortuna Düsseldorf and one of the most modern multi-purpose stadiums in Germany. Located in Düsseldorf, it opened in 2004 and replaced the former Rheinstadion, which had been one of the city’s most important sporting venues for decades.
With a capacity of around 54,600, the Merkur Spiel-Arena is designed as a large, fully enclosed stadium, offering excellent sightlines and modern facilities throughout. Its steep stands and enclosed structure help create a strong atmosphere on matchdays, especially when Fortuna supporters fill the home end with red-and-white colour, flags and noise.
One of the stadium's most distinctive features is its retractable roof, which can be fully closed in around 30 minutes, allowing matches and events to continue regardless of the weather. The arena also features one of Europe's largest retractable natural grass pitches. The entire playing surface can slide out of the stadium on rails, allowing the grass to receive natural sunlight and fresh air while the arena hosts concerts or other indoor events.
Another unique feature is its location beside the River Rhine and the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre (Messe Düsseldorf), making it one of Germany's best-connected stadiums. The arena has hosted matches during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, UEFA EURO 2024, the UEFA Nations League Finals, international rugby and American football games, boxing world championship bouts, and concerts by many of the world's biggest artists.
Official Tickets
Buy through the official online Fortuna Düsseldorf Ticket Shop. Fortuna often releases tickets in sales phases. For high-demand fixtures, club members receive priority access before general sale begins, giving them the best chance of securing seats. Membership does not guarantee a ticket, but it provides earlier access and access to exclusive member allocations for selected matches. Advance sales for most home matches usually begin 4–6 weeks before kick-off.
Ticket Office. If tickets remain available, they can be purchased on matchday at the stadium ticket offices, which open around two hours before kick-off.

How to get to the Stadium
Via Train
Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (Hbf), The station is served by frequent ICE, IC, RE and RB services from cities including Cologne, Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg, Frankfurt and Berlin. From Düsseldorf Hbf take the U78 towards Merkur Spiel-Arena /Messe Nord and travel to the final stop, Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord. The journey takes approximately 15–20 minutes, followed by a 5–10 minute walk along Arena-Straße to the stadium. On Fortuna Düsseldorf matchdays, U78 services run approximately every five minutes, with additional trains operating after the final whistle.
For many Fortuna Düsseldorf home matches, your match ticket also serves as a public transport ticket within the VRR network, making the U78 the quickest and most convenient way to travel to and from the stadium.
By Car
From the A44 motorway: take Exit 29 – Messe Nord/Stadion (Messe Nord/Arena) and follow the signs for Merkur Spiel-Arena. This is the quickest and most direct route to the stadium. Supporters travelling from the north can also reach the arena via the A52 and A3, while those approaching from the south can use the A57 or A59, all of which connect to the A44. Supporters can use the official stadium parking areas, including P1 and P2, which are located within a short walk of the arena. Parking attendants and temporary signage direct drivers to the appropriate car parks on matchdays. The P7 multi-storey car park is generally reserved for VIP guests or pre-booked parking. Pre-booking a parking space, when available, is advisable for popular matches and major events.

Düsseldorf Airport (DUS), Best for international flights. Distance: 5 km. Travel Time: Journey time is approximately 10 minutes by car. 15-20 minutes by public transport.
Cologne-Bonn Airport (CGN). Distance: 65 km. Travel Time: 50-60 minutes by car or train
Weeze Airport (NRN). Distance: 80 km. Serving several low-cost airlines, although public transport connections are less convenient.
Dortmund Airport (DTM). Distance: 85 km. Travel Time: 1 hour by car.

Before and After the Match
Uerige (Altstadt Düsseldorf). One of Düsseldorf's most famous traditional breweries, Uerige is renowned for its locally brewed Altbier and lively atmosphere. Packed with locals and Fortuna supporters on matchdays, it is one of the city's classic pre-match meeting places.
Zum Schlüssel (Bolkerstraße). Another iconic Altbier brewery in Düsseldorf's historic Old Town, Zum Schlüssel serves traditional German food alongside its own house-brewed beer. It is a favourite stop for Fortuna fans before heading to the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
Brauerei Kürzer (Kurze Straße). One of Düsseldorf's newest and most popular breweries, Kürzer has quickly become a favourite with younger Fortuna supporters. Its modern atmosphere, excellent Altbier and central location make it an ideal place to begin a matchday.
Füchschen Brauerei (Ratinger Straße). A long-established brewery serving its own famous Füchschen Alt. Popular with both locals and visiting supporters, it offers an authentic Düsseldorf football experience before making the journey to the stadium.
Ratinger Straße. One of Düsseldorf's liveliest streets, lined with traditional pubs, breweries and beer gardens. On Fortuna matchdays, it fills with red-and-white supporters enjoying drinks before taking the U78 tram to the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
Bolkerstraße & Düsseldorf Altstadt. Known as the "longest bar in the world," Düsseldorf's Old Town is home to more than 250 pubs, bars and breweries. Thousands of Fortuna supporters gather here before and after home matches, creating one of Germany's best football atmospheres away from the stadium.
Merkur Spiel-Arena Esplanade. The large forecourt surrounding the stadium comes alive before every home match. Food stalls, beer stands, live entertainment and fan activities make it the main gathering point outside the arena as supporters prepare for kick-off.
Rheinterrasse Düsseldorf. Located on the banks of the River Rhine, the Rheinterrasse offers beer gardens, restaurants and bars with panoramic views over the river. It is a popular meeting place before or after matches, particularly during the warmer months, and is only a short journey from the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
