The Ground

  • Cardiff City Stadium, located in the Leckwith area of Cardiff, Wales, has been the home of Cardiff City Football Club since 2009. Replacing the historic Ninian Park, which had served the club for over a century, the stadium represents a modern era for Welsh football in the capital.

  • Officially opened in July 2009, the stadium was part of a major redevelopment project on the former Leckwith Athletics Stadium site. It offered the club a significant upgrade in terms of capacity, infrastructure, and commercial potential. While a break from the nostalgic charm of Ninian Park, Cardiff City Stadium has quickly established itself as a key venue in Welsh sport, also hosting international football and rugby fixtures.

  • Today, the stadium is owned by Cardiff City FC and remains central to the club’s ambitions both on and off the pitch. With a current seating capacity of approximately 33,280, it stands as the second-largest stadium in Wales, behind only the Principality Stadium. The Canton Stand, behind one of the goals, is known for its passionate and vocal supporters.

  • While it may lack the eccentricities of older grounds, Cardiff City Stadium combines functionality with a strong sense of identity and local pride.
